WhatsApp is extremely popular in our subregion. It serves us very well but we feel the app will be better if the following features are baked in. Here are five features WhatsApp desperately needs:
Ability to send media to more than one contact at a time:
It gets unnecessarily routine when you want to share a photo or a video with more than one contact. An option to select more than one recipient for a media item without having to create a broadcast list will make things must better and faster.
Request permission before adding to groups:
I don’t think this needs any supporting sentences. When someone wants to add me to a group, my consent should be sought first.
More regard for privacy:
When you’re added to a group, EVERYONE sees your phone number. This makes you very vulnerable to stalkers. WhatsApp can easily hide your phone number from people who are not in your Contacts list
Increase media limit:
In this world of 4K videos, a 16MB quota on media sucks. You can barely send any decent video or picture on WhatsApp due to its compression algorithms. An option to maintain file sizes before transmission will do us a lot of good.
Animated GIFs as display images:
An animated GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) file contains within the single file a set of images that are presented in a specified order. An animated GIF can loop endlessly (and it appears as though your document never finishes arriving). Instead of boring static images as display photos, we could spice things up with some GIFs
What features would you want to see in WhatsApp? Did we cover them? If not, tell us in the comments section and if we think so too, we will update the article! Go ahead, don’t be shy. Comment now.
